Charlton Athletic Women 3-1 Wolves Women

Charlton finished their preseason with victory over Wolves at The Valley.

The visitors started brightly, enjoying a good amount of possession in the early stages but without really threatening the Charlton goal.

Charlton took the lead in the 17th minute. A Jodie Hutton corner eventually gets recycled over to Emily Van Egmond and her cross is headed in at the far post by Ash Neville.

In the 27th minute Sophie Whitehouse reminded everyone that she is one of the best goalkeepers around right now with two stunning saves. First, she tipped an Olivia Francis effort over the bar and, from the resulting corner, a volley from Chloe Williams was destined for the top corner but Sophie dived full stretch to turn the ball away.

Charlton doubled their lead in the 39th minute. Leah Davidson won the ball back deep inside the Wolves half and eventually it found it’s way to Ellie Mason whose low cross was turned in by Ash Neville for her second of the game.

HALF TIME CHARLTON 2-0 WOLVES

Charlton made a multitude of changes at half time and two of the players who came on were involved as Charlton made it 3-0 in the 49th minute. Charlton again won the ball deep inside the Wolves half with excellent work by Paula Partido who worked her way into the area and passed it to Carla Humphrey who made no mistake from 8 yards out.

Both sides continued to make changes as the second half wore on and Wolves, to their credit, kept going forward in search of a goal.

They almost got one in the 79th minute when a shot from the edge of the area from Amy Sims hit the top of the crossbar.

Wolves did get their goal in the 85th minute. An Amy Sims cross was met by Yana Daniëls whose shot came back off the post but she reacted quickest and slotted home the rebound. She did look offside when the initial cross came in but the assistant’s flag stayed down and the goal stood.

FULL TIME CHARLTON 3-1 WOLVES

A good final workout for the girls and all available outfield players got good minutes under their belts as focus now turns to our WSL campaign and the visit of Liverpool to The Valley next Sunday (2pm)

Chatham Town Women 0-3 Charlton Athletic Women

Charlton began their preseason campaign with a 3-0 win against Chatham on a sunny afternoon at The Bauvill. It was the hosts who enjoyed the better of the opening minutes but Charlton grew into the game and ended up running out comfortable winners. In the 32nd minute, Ellie Mason scored our first goal, collecting the ball just inside the area and then finishing well after a neat first touch and turn. Ellie Mason & Jodie Hutton both hit the woodwork in the first half too. Charlton had the chance to increase their lead in the 37th minute when they were awarded a penalty after Gloria Siber was brought down but Gillian Kenney saw her spot kick well saved by Chatham keeper Baravik. Two goals in 5 minutes at the start of the second half saw Charlton increase their lead. First, on 52 minutes, Kiera Skeels headed home a corner at the back post. Then, on 57 minutes, some good high pressing from Charlton saw Gillian Kenney win the ball on the edge of the area and she coolly slotted home in t...
