Everton Women 1-0 Charlton Athletic Women

The old saying “if it wasn’t for bad luck, I’d have no luck at all” seems very appropriate to Charlton as they were narrowly beaten by Everton 1-0 at Goodison Park on Sunday in only the second game in WSL history that ended with neither side registering a shot on target. Everton started the better, enjoying the early possession but Charlton defended well and didn’t allow them to create anything. The first chance of the game came for the hosts in the 11th minute. A free kick from Hikaru Kitagawa came in from the right and, despite having 4 Charlton defenders around her, Hannah Silcock rose highest but couldn’t direct her header on target. Charlton’s first chance came in the 20th minute. A long ball from Jodie Hutton gets headed away only as far as Ash Neville who, from 30 yards out, hits a first time shot that swerved and dipped and had Courtney Brosnan scrambling backwards but, unfortunately for Ash & Charlton, the ball comes back off the crossbar. In fairness to Brosnan she d...

Injury Blow For New Signing

Charlton have announced that new signing Linda Lif Boama suffered a knee injury in training and will miss a period of time. Whilst exact details weren’t released, the club have said she has already successfully undergone surgery so it does sound like the absence will be a lengthy one. We are all with you Linda and wish you a full and speedy recovery.

A New Striker In SE7

Charlton have signed striker Cassandra Korhonen from Danish side HB Køge. The 28 year old has signed a 2 year deal and adds more firepower to the Addicks front line. Korhonen has played many seasons for a variety of clubs across Scandinavia & Europe, including winning a league title whilst at Benfica. She will wear the no.16 shirt this season. Welcome to Charlton Cassandra.

Charlton Athletic Women 0-4 Liverpool Women

Charlton were given a harsh welcome to life in the WSL on Sunday as clinical Liverpool ran out comfortable 4-0 winners at The Valley in front of Charlton’s biggest ever opening game home crowd, The visitors started the better and took the lead in the 8th minute. A short corner worked it’s way to Cornelia Kopacs who’s dipping cross was palmed away from under her bar by Sophie Whitehouse but it fell right to Grace Fisk who had the simple task of putting the ball into the net. Charlton grew into the game as the first half went on and did have their moments in attack. Jodie Hutton putting in some tremendous crosses but Liverpool defended them well. One such cross made its way across to Ellie Mason but she was unable to find the target. At the other end Whitehouse made a brilliant double save from Beata Olsson. First she saved Olsson’s initial header and then she blocked her follow up shot to keep Charlton in the game. HALF TIME CHARLTON 0-1 LIVERPOOL The second half began in the same way, ...

Defensive Reinforcements Arrive

Although the summer transfer window officially closed on 3rd September, that didn’t stop Charlton announcing the signings of defenders Hawa Cissoko and Leighanne Robe. 29 year old Cissoko joins on a season long loan from Italian side Parma. She is a French International having been capped 9 times as well as playing for them at various youth levels. Hawa brings more WSL experience to the squad having previously played for West Ham. 32 year old Robe has penned a 1 year deal from Mexican side Pumas UNAM. As with Cissoko, Leighanne brings with her WSL experience having spent 6 years at Liverpool. Both signings will add valuable depth to the squad as Karen Hills puts the finishing touches to her squad ahead of rhe WSL season opener at home to Liverpool. Looking forward to seeing both Hawa & Leighanne on the pitch very soon.
